Dokutech, as a company specialising in technical translation, couldn’t fail to be present at the 2018 edition of Tekom, a trade fair dedicated to technology and communication, which took place at the Stuttgart International Congress Centre (Germany) on the 13th, 14th and 15th of this month.
The trade fair, which focuses on technical communication (Technische Kommunication), attracts visitors from all over the world every year. It is undoubtedly a must-visit for all professionals and/or curious people with an interest in the fields of technology and communication, as well as their ramifications.
Here, visitors have the opportunity to establish new contacts and partnerships, keep up to date with news and trends and deepen their knowledge through the various tutorials, workshops, presentations and panel discussions that form part of the fair’s programme. In addition to visiting the spaces and stands promoting the various services and products, there is also the chance to take part in other social events where, once again, communication and the sharing of experiences between participants and organisations is encouraged.
In this edition, once again, the conversations kept pace with the technological and communication developments of modern times. Ideas and objectives were discussed, both common and divergent, regarding the present and future of the influence and unavoidable need for the application of technological tools in communication; tools as auxiliary means and not substitutes for human participation (which we want), whether in a professional or personal context.
Other topics on the agenda included new technological tools, virtual reality, user experience and data utilisation and protection. Other issues, such as document portability and ideas for better use of translation support tools, were also on the list of topics covered.
The latter, along with other innovations with a more direct influence on the areas of translation and localisation at the moment, have aroused our special interest. As a company that develops its work with the aim of breaking down linguistic and communication barriers, we are particularly attentive to any innovation that helps us in this regard and consequently allows us to offer a service of the highest quality. Our participation in this type of event is therefore of the utmost importance and satisfaction to us.
It was an intense three days of communication and discovery, where we realised that, alongside the technologies and methodologies that we are getting to know and implementing in our working methods, it is experiences like this, of communicating with and for people, that help us to grow, individually and as a group.
And if by the next edition the machines haven’t taken over the world, we’ll be there again to learn a little more about how to keep on taking them over.
